Near Infrared is a subset of the infrared band, which is just outside the spectral range where could be seen by human eyes. With longer wavelength than visible lights, NIR lights can penetrate fog, smoke and other atmospheric conditions. And unlike MWIR or LWIR light in longer wavelength band, NIR is a reflected energy that behaves similar to visible light.

Near infrared Lens (NIR lens) is infrared lens optimized for the near infrared region. Because of the atmospheric absorption, only in certain region in the infrared band, light can go through the air and be used in infrared applications. Our NIR lens is designed to operate in the second near infrared window, and applies to near infrared detector (900-1700 nanometer). It is a very important component in the NIR imaging system that it plays the same role as human eyes. Without good NIR lens, you would not have clear vision in your system.
